Countywide Strategic Plan – Shaping the Future Together
What does the future of Fairfax County look like to you? Fairfax County Government is beginning a strategic planning process with the community to shape the future together – and we want to hear from and include all voices.
County Executive Bryan Hill and Senior Staff for Fairfax County, are in the beginning phase of a Countywide Strategic Plan Update. The purpose is to define priorities for 2020 and beyond which will center around 7-10 areas. We are asking that all County residents take the survey so that their voice will be heard. Specific efforts such as economic success, Fairfax County Public Schools, One Fairfax, and other areas will be integrated into this Strategic Plan.

Disasters Happen
They don’t happen often or everywhere, but they do happen sometimes and somewhere. In some cases, they are predictable, and in others they are unthinkable. Tornadoes touch down, hurricanes make
landfall, floodwaters rise, fires burn, utilities are interrupted, terrorists strike. But with planning and preparation, you can make a difference. You can reduce a disaster’s impacts on you, your family, and your community. You can save lives and homes and livelihoods.
The Fairfax County Office of Emergency Management is a resource for the community. Our mission is to make us all readier and more resilient to all hazards. In a crisis, the government must focus on those in the greatest peril. The better prepared everyone else is, the better the outcomes are for all of us.

The 50+ Community Survey for Fairfax County and Cities of Fairfax and Falls Church
We want aging in our area to be a healthy and happy experience. You can help us.
The 50+ Community Survey for Fairfax County and the Cities of Fairfax and Falls Church – launching in February 2019 – will assess the local lifestyles, community perceptions and access people 50+ have to the things they need to age the way they want to age.
Surveys Go Out February 2019 – Here’s What to Do if You Get One
Complete and return the paper questionnaire we sent in the mail, or log on to our survey website using the URL we sent in your packet. Complete the survey, and you’re done! It’s totally anonymous and will help us plan a better community for you. We need your help to make Fairfax a more aging-friendly community. We want to know more about the experience of aging in the local region so we can align resources and planning to better meet the needs of Fairfax area adults 50+. This is a collaborative effort by the local governments of Fairfax County, Fairfax City and Falls Church. It’s a completely scientific research process that is being facilitated by the National Research Center.
IMPORTANT MEETINGS AND DATES TO REMEMBER
The Braddock District Council will be holding their February meeting on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 in Braddock Hall at 7:30 PM. The topic is Trash Management, and there will be representatives from DPWES and some of the local trash haulers at the meeting to talk about what happen with your trash and recycling. Everyone is welcome to hear about this important part of our lives.
The Braddock District Council will hold its March meeting on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 in the Kings Park Library Meeting Room at 7:30 PM. This will be the Budget Town Hall Meeting, hosted in conjunction with Supervisor Cook. County Executive Bryan Hill and Chief Financial Officer Joe Mondoro will be here to talk about our county’s financial heath and future. This is a meeting you don’t want to miss!
On Thursday, March 21, 2019, the Mason Community Forum will take place at the Fairfax City Hall Board Room. This is everyone’s opportunity to find out what things are happening on the George Mason University campus, in the city of Fairfax and in the areas of Braddock District/Fairfax County adjacent to the Mason campus that would affect those who live and work in all three places. These meetings are held 3-4 times a year and everyone is welcome to attend. Topics to be discussed will be announced in early March.
On Monday, February 4, 2019 at 7:30 PM a community meeting to hear about plans for the Training Center property will take place at Church of the Good Shepherd, 9350 Braddock Rd, Burke, VA 22015. All are welcome to attend.
On Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at 7:30 PM there will be a community meeting at Oak View ES to hear the most recent plans for the development of the property at the corner of Roberts Road and Braddock Road. All are welcome.
If you’re concerned about your neighborhood safety and want to become more aware of what the Fairfax County Police Department is doing to help us to have such a safe place to live, each Police District has a Citizens Advisory Committee that meets monthly. Anyone is welcome to attend, and each month there is a presentation about some aspect of our local police force. Each of them will be able to tell you more about the programs available and the dates of meetings in their district.
