One University Development – Community Meeting on traffic & safety issues

July 8, 2019 @ 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM EDT

The Fairfax Villa Association strongly encourages everyone in our neighborhood to attend an important meeting on Monday, July 8, at 7:30 at Fairfax Villa Elementary School.

Braddock District representative John Cook will be holding a meeting to discuss the traffic impact and safety concerns for the proposed One University development project at the intersection of Route 123 and University Drive, one of the primary exits from our neighborhood.

We believe there are serious congestion and pedestrian safety issues that are not being considered by the County or the developer. The traffic study (paid for by the developer) is not a true reflection of the reality that each of us often faces when using that intersection. Those problems will only increase with the addition of nearly 1,300 residents (including an 800-student dormitory) and roughly 1,000 more cars on that small plot of land at the northwest corner of the intersection. The developer and the County are pushing hard for the approval of this development, and they are counting on you not showing up or paying attention.

It’s critical that as many people as possible attend this meeting so that our politicians hear our voices. The Zoning Board staff will also be in attendance and will submit its recommendations to the County the following day, so this is your chance to have maximum input and impact.
